ING has appointed Andrew Hector as head of wholesale banking in Australia, effective November 1. Wholesale banking constitutes approximately a fifth of overall revenues of ING Australia and is an integral part of the firm’s offering in the country.

Hector has more than 30 years corporate and institutional banking experience, having worked for both Australian and international banks. He has deep sector expertise across a diverse range of industries including retail and wholesale trade, food/beverage and agriculture, telco/media and entertainment, property and health.

Hector joins ING from ANZ, where he has spent the last 13 years in senior leadership roles, most recently as general manager of corporate and institutional banking ( property and health ). He has also held director level roles at Citigroup and Westpac.

According to ING, Hector’s appointment is consistent with the execution of the growth vision laid out by global head of wholesale banking Andrew Bester. The firm’s wholesale banking revenues grew 24% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2022 or 13% from the previous quarter. Bester sees Asia-Pacific as a growth engine for ING and Australia an important growth market in the region.
